Each Sunday in April

In-person and online writing community initiative.

SHOW UP & WRITE is an initiative where writers attend in-person or online sessions to simply write for three hours and then come together for one hour to connect and discuss all things writing.

Writing can be a lonely pursuit; this opportunity gives us a chance to write in a community. And often our busy schedules distract us from finding time to commit to writing what we want to write. SHOW UP & WRITE gives us the chance to commit and stick to that commitment.

IN PERSON: Attend sessions at Theatro Technis (26 Crowndale Rd, NW1 1TT).

We are capping the in-person sessions to 12 writers based on the space provided.

ONLINE: Check in at the top of the session with a wave at 1pm. Microphones off for the 3-hour writing period though we encourage you to keep your camera on to stay on task. Then stay after for the hour discussion. Online sessions will be capped at 15 writers.

COST: No cost! Free to join!

WHEN: Sunday, April 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th - 1pm to 5pm

Discussions will be facilitated by MENA Arts UK Steering Group or Hyphen Artist Collective members.

We encourage you to attend all, but we understand freelance schedules don't allow that sometimes.

HOW TO APPLY: We welcome all MENA+ writers and/or writers with a “hyphenated” artist skill set or cultural background to apply. Writers of all levels and experience are welcome.

Please email sharing a bit about yourself, where you are based, what you’re working on, whether you wish to attend in-person or online Zoom sessions and specify what dates you can attend.

MENA Arts UK is a new arts organisation for UK-based professionals who are connected to the MENA+ region (Middle East, North Africa and the surrounding area).

We celebrate the talent of our membership, strive to be at the heart of conversations around our identity, be our own support network, lobby for the appropriate representation, and advocate for change to increase access and opportunities for employment.
