We Are All Fish

In We Are All Fish, YA-TA Collective presents a split-world visual theatre piece about luck, timing, and connection across impossible distances. Above, two lonely cats set out from opposite ends of the world, searching for something real. Below, a single live performer — the well-meaning but catastrophically unsuited caretaker of a cog mechanism — unknowingly sabotages their every attempt.

When the cogs jam, disaster strikes upstairs at precisely the worst moment. When they turn freely, connection becomes possible.

Drawing on Edo-period Japanese seasonal time — where hours stretch and shrink with light and dark — the performance moves in rhythms that slip, delay, and occasionally align. The audience is invited to influence the cats' journey, choosing between narrative paths in real time. What happens next depends on what the room decides.

A playful, poignant meditation on the systems that govern our lives — and the stubborn persistence of reaching, even when connection keeps failing.
