The Prisoner of Second Avenue
by Neil Simon
Directed by Colette Dockery
Mel Edison is a 47-year-old Manhattan advertising executive on the brink of a breakdown.
Living in a 14th-floor apartment, he rages at the noisy neighbours, the clanging garbage-cans, the endless racket of the city. And, when he is fired, he finally cracks up. His wife Edna tries to cope as her husband spirals out of control. His family arrives with an offer of financial help that Mel knows he needs but can't accept. And yet this is a comedy, with Neil Simon providing a string of one-liners whilst also making shrewd points about urban crisis.
